New Justice Video – “Stress” May 2, 2008

Justice, last year’s frog princes of the house party, shift gears with a video that can be read as a commentary on recent years’ French youth riots. It’s incredible. Intense. Unnerving. It recall’s Harmony Korine’s Gummo or  Fernando Meirelles’ City of God. D.A.N.C.E time is over.

Directed by Romain-Gavras.

UPDATE: Daily Motion restricted the video due to “inappropriate content.” YouTube to the rescue. Also, I’m hearing some comparisons to Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, and the 1995 Cannes winner, La Heine. Agreed.

I think this video is sick. Words cannot describe how angry it made me. the violence is pointless and there is nothing artisic about it, it’s clear many of the bystanders are not actors and are genuinely scared. hopefully this moron of a film maker will one day ‘fake-mug’ the wrong person, who will not want to laugh about it and sign a release afterwards, and instead will smash this guys teeth through the back of his head like he deserves.

Completely agree with the above poster. How can you compare this to A Clockwork Orange, City of God or La Heine?

This glamorizes violence and is a completely useless video. It is not artistic in any way. Videos like the Prodigy’s Smack My B***h Up at least had a story behind them and they were artistic. This is just a pile of putrid trash and Justice should be ashamed.

I’ve heard Justice’s cheesy old album of 90s style disco house – they need to stop acting like they’re hardcore (although I do love their music) they’re now marketing themselves through a facade of violence.

I dont know, I have to disagree. I thought it was a very interesting and a meaningful video. Although I cant see how violence should be a response to this video. Its obviously not advocating violence, but I do think it really does push the limit.

I just dont feel the same hatred against the director.

I doubt its real, with the switching the radio to another Justice song.
